Men and women who have served or are currently serving our communities and nation carry burdens and experiences that few outside these circles can fully understand. StirrUp Purpose is dedicated to supporting and improving the lives of its veteran and first responder communities. Equine services provide emotional, cognitive, social and physical benefits for veterans, first responders and their families. Individuals working with horses have reported benefits including: increased self-esteem, self-worth, trust for others and community integration as well as decreased depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder attacks and self-inflicting thoughts.
An important vision of StirrUp Purpose is to create respite, healing and peer support for our veterans and first responders through meaningful equine related retreats and adventures.
Given seasonal constraints, overnight camp retreats are generally limited to only a few months out of the year. Beginning November 2024, StirrUp Purpose will supplement its seasonal camp retreats with Project 7120. Based on the truths captured in Psalm 71:20, Project 7120 will endeavor to provide on-going opportunities and an environment for men and women veterans and first responders to experience the 3 Rs-Respite, Recreation, and Building Peer Relationships-throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons
StirrUp Purpose also provides Therapeutic Horsemanship for those interested in weekly lessons. Therapeutic Horsemanship lessons are a one-hour lesson that includes everything from groundwork to riding to develop both riding and horsemanship skills. Therapeutic Horsemanship lessons may be a private session or in a group of up to three participants. Visit our Therapeutic Horsemanship page to learn more!
