Volunteering in Lessons

The Sidewalker pays constant  attention to horsemanship students in tasks of grooming, tacking,  groundwork and riding. Gives physical and motivational support as indicated  by the instructor. 

 The Horse Handler works directly with the horse before, during and after the therapeutic horsemanship session to ensure a safe and enriching experience for students.

• Age 14+
• Apply to volunteer
• Complete a Sidewalker training
• Complete the Sidewalker Horsemanship checklist 
• Congratulations! You are a Sidewalker! 

• Age 16+
• Complete Sidewalker training
• Sidewalk in a minimum of 5 Therapeutic Horsemanship lessons
• Complete Horse Handler training (after receiving Instructor approval)
• Complete the Horse Handler Unmounted Horsemanship checklist
• Complete the Horse Handler Horsemanship checklist
• Acquire Instructor sign-off 
• Congratulations! You are a Horse Handler!
